Yesterday, I revealed on my Instagram Story that I was going in for an Acne Scars Treatment at VLCC, and received a lot of questions from both men and women suffering from the same skin problem, so I decided to write down my experience here. I hope this will help you out if you're looking at getting your scars treated too :)
I had the clearest, smoothest skin until my face suddenly started erupting with huge red bumps when I was an 8th grader, because of severe hormonal imbalance. I suffered from acne for almost 6 years, and now it has been more than 3 years that I haven't broken out at all (except occasional pimples here and there) but the previous acne break outs have left me with a lot of scarring and hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and jawline.
Most people who haven't suffered from acne do not understand how it takes a toll on the lives of the acne- sufferers. It makes you feel really low on self confidence, and you avoid going out. People stare at you like they just saw an alien, everyone you come across tells you to see a doctor (as if you haven't been told that by hundreds of people already!) Sometimes, it also prevents you from doing things you really want to do.
I have been there too, but now I have "almost" made peace with my flaws. I am not quite proud of them, but I am not ashamed of them either!
If you're an acne- sufferer or have any kind of skin problem that is holding you back from doing something, I want to tell you that don't let such things stop you from pursuing your passion/ dreams. Acne is NOT ugly, insecurities ARE.
Okay, I think I drifted away from the topic. Coming back at it, I have ice-pick scars and hyperpigmen tation on my cheeks and jawline, and looking at the condition of my skin, the doctor at VLCC (Chandigarh) did a basic face clean-up yesterday to remove the impurities and to prepare the skin for the treatment, followed by a "Voodoo Black Magic" treatment today which was a chemical peel that they call "The Black Peel". It caused a stinging sensation on my skin for 4-5 minutes, and then it calmed down.
This peel will basically remove a few layers of my skin to reveal fresher, healthier skin. So for few days now, my face will get really dry and flaky, but that's a good sign :) Once the skin heels, the doctor would guide me with the next step- another round of Black Peel or Micro-Needling!
Did it help?
After the Black Peel, my skin definitely looks bright and glowy, and I am sure it will reveal newer, healthier skin, but its too early to comment upon the progress of the scars.
Can VLCC be trusted?
Yes! The Dermatologists at VLCC are highly professional, and their service is 10/10.
How much did the treatment cost?
It costed me 4500 INR since they have discounts going on right now. However, the original cost is 8000 INR.
I will keep you guys updated on the progress :) Hope you're ready for the new week! xx
